Pugs n' Play was started in January of 2002. Our first meeting was in February of 2002. We are a group of pugs and pug owners who get together for frequent play dates. We are not a club, there are no rules for membership, no club dues, and no qualifications for taking part in our gatherings. We welcome all pugs regardless of lineage. The pugs in our group include show quality, pet quality, rescued, young, old, handicapped, blind, high-strung, subdued, overweight, slender, and everything in between. You don't need to own a pug to attend our play dates, we often have guests come out just to watch the pugs. Non-pug dogs are welcome too - lots of our canine siblings are 'honorary' pugs. We do not sell anything on this website. We have links to on-line stores, and product recommendations on some of our health and information pages. In some cases we have affiliate programs set up where the vendor will provide a small commission to us for referring the customer through this website. These are usually very small percentages, but they will help to fund the site which I do out of pocket. We are not a resource for obtaining a pug. If you are looking to own a pug, we recommend you research this breed first. A good place to start is our Before you get a Pug page. Additional links are provided there. Then, if you are still interested in owning a pug, we recommend several local Rescue Groups who specialize in the Pug Breed. You may also want to attend an adoption fair to learn more. If you are looking for a puppy, or a show-quality dog, contact the NCPC (Northern California Pug Club) for a breeder referral. It is important to understand the Pros and Cons of owning a pug or any pet for that matter, before taking on the responsibility and lifestyle adjustment that it requires. The Pug is a breed which requires some types of maintenance that other dog breeds do not. There are genetic health and care issues that run in the breed that you will need to familiarize yourself with, and be prepared to adjust to. So be sure you understand all there is to know about the very special breed known as the Pug before you own one. It will ensure the best quality of life for yourself and your pug.
